KinHub Invitation

An invitation to build a living community of practice rooted in BioKultural systems, collective learning, and regenerative economies.

Indigenous Commons is a planetary collective bringing together diverse communities, knowledge traditions, and ways of living in relationship with Life.

After years of shared inquiry, relationship-building, and systems design, we are entering a new phase: putting what we have learned into practice through locally rooted KinHubs.

We are inviting communities and initiatives with whom we have built relationships to explore how we might learn, collaborate, and strengthen biocultural economies together.

Our work is grounded in reciprocity, community authority, collective learning, and respect for the knowledge and lifeways already present within communities.

$5,000

Participation Support per Selected Initiative

In early 2027, Indigenous Commons plans to begin a six-month, compensated KinHub Formation Process.

We anticipate welcoming approximately ten community initiatives, with flexibility based on the application process and collective capacity.

Each selected initiative will receive $5,000 in participation support, subject to an agreed arrangement. This support is intended to strengthen community participation, consultation, preparation, and collective learning throughout the formation process.

We will gather every other week, with mutually agreed-upon community research and learning activities between gatherings.

Building on Indigenous Commons' existing practices, we are developing a decentralized system of adaptive learning and relational value creation.

Together, we will advance Indigenous and Local Knowledge (ILK), which we refer to as BioKultural Sciences, recognizing the rigor of these knowledge traditions and supporting multiple forms of evidence. WEIRD science can complement these traditions.

Who Is Invited?

This opportunity is shared through Indigenous Commons' network of relationships and trusted referrals. Community initiatives may apply directly or be recommended by someone familiar with their work. All applications will be reviewed through the same selection process.

A KinHub is a community-rooted collective connected to a particular place, territory, or lasting network of relationships. Each KinHub carries its own knowledge, ways of governing, priorities, and responsibilities, and remains accountable to the community it represents.

To be selected you must:

01 Alignment & Coherence
Demonstrate alignment and coherence with the mission, vision, and aspirations of Indigenous Commons.

03 Representative Authority
Carry a legitimate mandate to represent your community in this process.

02 Community & Place
Have a clear relationship to a community, territory, or BioKultural place.

04 Collective Responsibility
Be willing to participate in collective inquiry, learning, and shared responsibility.

05 Community Representatives
Identify up to two representatives who hold appropriate community authority to participate.

Community Authority & Recognition
You do not need to be a large or formally incorporated organization. Community authority may be demonstrated through locally legitimate processes, including customary governance, community endorsement, or testimony.

Eligibility & Timeline

November 8–20, 2026

Alignment & Coherence

Tell us about your initiative, what guides its work, and why you believe it could become a good KinHub. You may respond in writing, by audio/video, or through an assisted interview. This is the first step, not the complete application.

November 21 – December 10, 2026

Community Profile & Representative Authority

Applicants invited to continue will complete a second application, providing more information about their community, place, practices, representative authority, and accountability.

Application Completion Honorarium

Every initiative that completes both stages of the application process will receive a $1,000 honorarium in recognition of the time and effort involved, regardless of whether it is selected to participate in the formation process.

Early 2027 — Approximately Six Months

Compensated KinHub Formation

Selected community initiatives will participate in an approximately six-month formation process, with facilitated gatherings every other week and mutually agreed community learning and consultation activities between meetings.

Participation Support

Each selected initiative will receive $5,000 in participation support, subject to an agreed participation arrangement. This support is intended to strengthen community participation and collective learning, rather than compensate an individual for submitting an application.

Participation in the formation process does not automatically guarantee recognition as a KinHub, a role in the Great Circle, or access to future funding.

Following the Formation Process — Schedule to Be Developed Collectively

Great Circle, Praxis Labs & Kinship Fund

Recognized KinHubs will contribute to identifying shared priorities and developing community-led inquiry and practice proposals. The collective will explore how BioKultural knowledge systems, relationships, and shared stewardship can strengthen community economies.

Recommendations concerning future implementation funding will follow agreed participatory processes, collective priorities, and applicable financial and grant requirements.

What Full Participation Means

Joining the Great Circle means entering a relationship of mutual responsibility.

Participants are expected to contribute their time, knowledge, attention, and care; remain accountable to their communities; honor shared commitments; and participate constructively in collective inquiry, decision-making, and learning.

This includes a willingness to engage consistently, follow through on agreements, and make space for the different perspectives and practices within the collective.

If these responsibilities are not compatible with your current capacity, personal commitments, or cultural protocols, this particular form of participation may not be the right fit at this time.

KinHub recognition establishes a relationship within Indigenous Commons. Guardianship and eligibility to steward particular funds involve additional responsibilities and authorizations.

Our process is designed to respect different languages, cultural practices, and ways of communicating. Sacred, confidential, or community-protected knowledge is never required as part of an application.

Take the first step toward becoming a KinHub. Share your initiative's vision, work, and aspirations with Indigenous Commons.
